Storms to move through region

Scattered storms will hit the D.C. area Thursday afternoon and evening.

WASHINGTON -- The threat of flash flooding has ended with drier and more comfortable weather on tap as we round out the work week.

The storms that developed ahead of a cold front rolled in and out very quickly this evening, limiting the threat of any flash flooding. Although we may still see an isolated shower or storm through about 10 p.m., there is no concern for any severe weather or flooding.

  • The earlier issues Tornado Watch has been canceled for all areas except Baltimore.
  • A cold front marching into the area, has ignited a line of thunderstorms this evening, mainly in our northern counties. While the threat of severe weather has ended, we do have the concern for flash flooding with any storms given the moisture antecedent conditions. Remember, if you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route. The storms should end by 9 or 10 p.m. with gradual clearing overnight with mild lows in the 70s in town with 60s in suburbs. In the wake of the front, northwesterly winds will bring in less humid conditions overnight and early Friday. This will set the stage for sunshine and a gorgeous end to the work week. Despite the lower humidity, it will still be rather warm with highs in the middle to upper 80s. The weekend looks pretty good overall. The only fly-in-the-ointment will be Saturday when a weak disturbance will arrive, providing the risk of showers, especially in West Virginia, Virginia, and southern Maryland, with lower humidity. Otherwise, we will see some sunshine with highs in the 80s. Behind this disturbance, we  partly to mostly sunny and hot conditions for Sunday.

Have a great finish to the work week!
